Cherrapunji β Where the Sky Meets the Earth
Cherrapunji (locally known as Sohra) sits 54 km south of Shillong at an elevation of 1,484 metres and holds multiple world records for rainfall. The town overlooks Bangladesh's plains, creating a dramatic backdrop of mist, waterfalls, and green gorges that looks almost unreal.

Nohkalikai Falls
At 340 metres, Nohkalikai is India's tallest plunge waterfall. The viewing deck offers a bird's-eye perspective of the cascade tumbling into a turquoise pool below. The local legend behind the falls β involving a tragic mother β makes the visit all the more poignant.
Seven Sisters Falls
A seasonal waterfall (best OctoberβJanuary) with seven distinct streams cascading down a rocky cliff face. Visible from a viewpoint near the main road.
Mawsmai Cave
A naturally lit limestone cave that you can walk through end-to-end in about 30 minutes. Stalactites and stalagmites line the narrow passages.
Eco Park & Bangladesh View
On a clear day you can see the plains of Bangladesh stretching to the horizon. The Eco Park is a well-maintained viewpoint with gardens, walkways, and a suspension bridge.
Double Decker Living Root Bridge
One of Meghalaya's most iconic sights β two tiers of living root bridges trained over centuries by the Khasi people using rubber fig tree roots. A 3,000-step trek from Nongriat village (approx. 2 hours each way).
Getting There from Shillong
The 54-km drive takes about 2 hours by private cab due to winding roads. A pre-booked cab is strongly recommended β shared vehicles are scarce and schedules are unreliable.
