Assam is the doorway to the whole Northeast, and worth far more than the drive through it. Kaziranga holds two-thirds of the world's one-horned rhinos. Majuli is the largest river island on earth and slowly shrinking. Most of our Meghalaya trips start or end in Guwahati, so adding Assam is usually just a matter of days.

When to go
November – April
Kaziranga is open and the safaris run; clear, dry weather across the valley.
May – September
Kaziranga closes for the monsoon; the Brahmaputra is in full flood.
