Why Northeast India Is Perfect for a Road Trip
Northeast India β the seven sister states plus Sikkim β is one of the subcontinent's most extraordinary travel regions. But it's not easy country for public transport: trains don't reach most destinations, domestic flights are limited, and buses are slow and infrequent. The best way to see the Northeast is exactly what generations of travelers have discovered: hire a good vehicle and driver, and take to the roads.
This 15-day circuit covers the highlights of Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and dips into Nagaland β approximately 2,500km of driving through landscapes that change dramatically every few hours.
The Route Overview
Guwahati β Shillong β Cherrapunji β Dawki β Shillong β Kaziranga β Dibrugarh β Ziro β Itanagar β Guwahati
Or the Nagaland variant: swap Ziro/Arunachal for Kohima/Nagaland.
